Who are we?
We are a project of the
Minster Centre, a leading training institute in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling. The project formerly known as ARICAS was set up to provide counselling for men who wished to overcome violent behaviour.
In 2005 ARICAS became The Families Without Fear Project to expand this work to include The Survivors of Abuse Support Programme and our Research Programme to evaluate the effectiveness of our intervention programmes.
How?
We are a registered charity and are currently funded by the Tudor Trust, Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales, The Mercers Charitable Foundation and the Edward Harvist Trust.
Why?
We aim to help the abuser to stop being violent and abusive.
About Us
What is The Families Without Fear Project?
The project is aimed primarily at partners of heterosexual relationships, but also recognises that abuse occurs in other forms of intimate partnerships, and also works with people in same sex relationships.
Our Objectives are:
- To reduce the occurrence of Domestic Violence, by working educationally and therapeutically with perpetrators, with the aim of stopping their violent behavior and changing their abusive attitudes.
- To support perpetrators of family abuse who express a desire to change, by helping them develop the life skills needed to maintain safer relationships, either with their current partner, or to develop safer family relationships in the future
- At the same time, we offer support and services to partners and ex-partners in order to increase their choices and well-being. The safety of survivors of abuse, women, children, and men is our first priority and fundamental to our work.
We define Domestic Violence as actual or threatened abuse perpetrated against a person (usually, but not always, by a man against a women) within the context of a current or previous intimate relationship. It may be physical, verbal, sexual, emotional, psychological or financial in nature, and it may involve relationships with both current and ex-partners.
The project uses a
mixed model of intervention including re–education, cognitive behavioral and psychotherapeutic support.
